Stylists at Black Sheep Hair on Birmingham Road raised £1056 after completing a blow-drying marathon on Friday 13 November in a bid to raise money for BBC Children in Need.
The team started at 6am on Friday 13th November and finished at 10pm - the team encouraged customers and local residents to volunteer to take part in the blow-dry marathon for charity. They managed to keep the dryers going and style the locks of 75 customers over 16 hours! The Sutton Coldfield salon successfully smashed the current record of 15 hours which was previously set by a St Albans salon.
The salon asked for a minimum £10 donation for each blow dry and in return customers received a fabulous hair do - all for charity. The money raised will go to support disadvantaged children and young people across the UK
Black Sheep Hair is an award winning hair salon lead by Michaela Devlin, who works at fashion shows all over the globe, styling some of the world’s top models. After seeing so many people getting involved last year and the children that the money helps - the team at the salon felt inspired to support BBC Children in Need – and have some fun at the same time.
Speaking of their fundraising success Michaela Devlin, salon owner and Style Director said; ''Wow! We are over the moon to have raised so much. The generosity of our customers has been incredible. The day was really hard work but the atmosphere in the salon was brilliant and every single customer that came in was really excited to take part and help us achieve our goal. A big thank you to every one that volunteered to take part and help raise money for such a great cause!''
In addition to the sponsorship and donations the salon also ran a prize draw which local businesses including Cream and Brown and Ashton and Fincher contributed to the prizes.
BBC Children in Need works throughout the year to ensure that every child in the UK has a safe, happy and secure childhood, and the chance to reach their full potential. It relies on the energy and commitment of thousands of fundraisers and supporters across the UK, who donate their time and money to put on events supporting the Appeal. Whether through cake sales, quizzes or dress ups, every penny of the money raised goes towards supporting projects across the UK.
